Requirements

CueFlip requires iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later, and a device with a microphone. Apple Pencil is optional and is used for annotation on iPad. An internet connection is required only to purchase or restore a subscription, and to sync with iCloud if you enable it; following the music and turning pages work entirely offline.

Getting started

How CueFlip decides when to turn the page

CueFlip does not read the notation on the page. You teach it the piece once: it records you playing through the score and learns what the music sounds like at each moment, together with the points at which you want the pages to turn. During a performance it listens, locates your position in what it learned, and turns each page as you approach the point you marked.

Teaching a piece

  1. Import the score as a PDF.
  2. Play the piece through while CueFlip records. Alternatively, import an existing recording — it must be of you, playing the same piece on the same instrument.
  3. Mark the point at which each page should turn.
  4. Review the result. The piece is then ready to perform.

Getting the best results

Correcting page turns

Pages turn too early or too late

The usual cause is a difference between the performance and the rehearsal recording the piece was taught from — most often a substantial difference in tempo. Re-teaching the piece at a tempo closer to the one you now play at is the single most effective correction. You can also adjust where each page turn is marked without re-recording.

Following stops partway through

Check the microphone first. Following will stall if room noise overwhelms the instrument, or if another app has taken over the microphone. Confirm also that the rehearsal recording covers the whole piece: CueFlip cannot follow a passage it was never taught.

The score turns back to an earlier page

This is intended behaviour in music with repeats, first and second endings, or a D.S. CueFlip learns the route you actually played and follows that same route. If it turns back when it should not, the piece was most likely taught along a different route from the one you are now playing.

Playing a recording back at the app does not work

This is expected, and is not a fault. Audio played through a loudspeaker has passed through a microphone, a codec, and a speaker before CueFlip hears it, and no longer resembles a live instrument in a room closely enough to be matched. Test with the instrument itself.

Annotations and sharing

Marking up a score

You can annotate any page with Apple Pencil or your finger. Annotations are saved with the score and appear during a performance.

Sharing annotations with a nearby iPad

Two devices in the same room can share annotations live over the local network, which is useful when rehearsing from shared markings. Pairing is confirmed with a one-time code, the connection is made directly between the devices, and no internet connection is used.

Before pairing, review the display name shown to the other person. CueFlip uses your device's name by default, which frequently contains your own name. You can change it in the app.

Subscriptions and billing

Managing or cancelling a subscription

Subscriptions are billed by Apple. Manage them in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or from Settings → Manage Subscription within CueFlip. Cancelling stops the next renewal; access continues until the end of the period already paid for.

Payment is charged to your Apple Account on confirmation of purchase. A subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of that period.

Restoring a purchase

On a new device, or after reinstalling, choose Settings → Restore Purchases while signed in with the Apple Account that made the original purchase.

Requesting a refund

Refunds are issued by Apple, not by us, and we are unable to process them on your behalf. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Your library and data

Where scores are stored

In CueFlip's private storage on your device. They are included in an encrypted device backup. Deleting the app deletes them.

Syncing across your devices

CueFlip can sync your library through your own iCloud account. Enable it in the app's settings, and sign in to iCloud with the same Apple Account on each device. Your data is stored in your private iCloud database, which we have no access to.

Moving to a new device

Restoring a new device from a backup of the previous one brings your library with it. You can also export a backup from CueFlip's settings and restore it on the other device, or enable iCloud sync.

Privacy

CueFlip has no servers and collects no data. Your recordings and scores never leave your device. The details are in the Privacy Policy.
